What production issues should be paid attention to in the design of woven labels?

Usually, a woven label is a small woven label on the collar or both sides of a garment. The woven label inside the garment that marks the ingredients and size may seem inconspicuous, but it is an indispensable small woven label on every piece of clothing and every plush toy. It carries the logo of the clothing brand, and customers can clearly identify which brand it is through the woven label. So what production issues should be paid attention to in the design of woven labels?

1. Width limit:

Computer machine: The minimum width requirement is 1CM. If it is less than 1CM, it must be cut manually, with a high scrap rate and high cost. There is basically no upper limit on the width, and the maximum width can be 110CM.

Wooden shuttle machine: The width requirement is between 1CM and 5CM, and the maximum is 5.0CM.

Computer hook edge machine: The width requirement is between 0.6CM and 3.5CM, and the maximum is 3.5CM.

2. Weaving color restrictions:

Computer machine: The widest range of options, up to 12 colors can be woven, including gold, silver, black and other metal threads;

Wooden shuttle machine: Up to 4 colors can be woven (including satin base color), but satin hot-dye woven labels can only use human silk thread (not easy to be dyed during the hot-dyeing process), and gold, silver, black and other metal threads cannot be used, which are easy to break at high temperatures; in addition, the hot-dyeing process is a proprietary process of wooden shuttle machines, which other machines cannot do.

Hook edge machine: Up to 4 colors can be woven.

3. Production time:

Computer machines and wooden shuttle machines can generally be published within three days and shipped within 4-6 days;

Hook edge machines take 4-5 days to publish and 5-7 days to ship.

The above production issues that need to be paid attention to in the design of woven labels are shared here. The small woven label may seem inconspicuous, but it is also a key reflection of the quality of clothing. Therefore, when producing woven labels, you must choose regular manufacturers and high-quality products, so that the quality of clothing can be fully highlighted and the value of your brand can be enhanced.

FAQ

Why is font size and line thickness a major constraint in woven label design?

Unlike printing, where ink can capture incredibly fine details, woven labels are created by interlacing physical threads. If a font is too small or a line is too thin, the threads cannot “break” sharply enough to form the character, resulting in illegible text or a blurred logo. Designers must adhere to minimum thickness standards—typically maintaining a minimum font height and line weight—to ensure that the mechanical weaving process can clearly define every element of the brand identity without the threads bunching together.

How does color selection and “thread bleed” affect the final look of a label?

In woven labels, the background color can sometimes “peek through” or influence the appearance of the foreground threads, a phenomenon known as color bleeding. For example, weaving white text onto a dark red background might cause the white to appear slightly pink. To combat this, high-quality production often uses “double-white” or high-density “blocker” weaves to ensure color purity. Designers should also limit the total number of colors in a single design, as each additional color increases the thickness of the label and the complexity of the weaving process.
